interview with Watercolour artist

Interview 4 With Artist Amanda (spatterfulchaos)

We chose to interview Amanda as her work is definitely full of chaos and colour and I absolutely love it!

This artists doesn’t lack energy or colour in her work. Every piece feels like its jumping out the page. I love her unique twist on animals. I love the feeling of happiness and creativity everytime i see her art. Connecting with her made me feel her personality even more through art. This lady is such a positive, motivated and beautiful individual. As I know she has had art challenges and the roller coaster of life but every word she says shows how she would never give up and tries everything she can to learn new skills, find inspiration of others and she always supports everyone she can. Connecting with artists like her makes me realise how many great souls there are on this planet.

I have to say the answer she gave for describing lockdown in 3 words is just fantastic, inspirational and perfectly put.

How did you get started on art?
I started watercolor painting in December 2019 with a Let’s Make Art Watercolor subscription box that I was gifted as a birthday present. Changed my life.

Do you have a connection with other artists?
Kinda…? I’m still working on building connections. Locally, it’s been extra tough with covid. Social media has been oddly helpful this year. I expected to find inspiration but would have never expected to find community that way.

Do you get creative block and how do you overcome it?
Absolutely. I often follow tutorials to help give me a place to start from. I’ll do those until I feel inspired to try my own twist on it. Alternatively, I’ll focus on just making a mess and then using that as a base to figure out what the painting wants to be…. Does that sound weird? Also, my dogs. I tend to paint them when I’m not sure what else to paint.

How has art helped you in lockdown?
Watercolor has been a really therapeutic way for me to process through the chaos.

If you had to use three words to describe lockdown what would they be?
Embrace. baby. steps.

Have you learned anything in 2020?
I love the creativity that I’ve seen come out of this year!

Do you follow/admire any specific artists?
Yes! Sarah Cray, Becca Borelli, and Greta Linquist are a few of my current favorites. Their emphasis on play, being kind to yourself, following your intuition, and creating from within the daily chaos is amazing. 🙌🏻
