Mermaid art

Mystery in the Mermaid…

What is life and what’s really going on right now?

I created this artwork as like everyone, I had lots of emotions going on when we all got told we were being locked in. So, with this particular art work I wanted to share my emotions through different sections of this piece.

The mermaid I drew was to represent freedom. I positioned her looking towards the woods to get the feel of her looking away from the world right now and looking into nature. I felt this was a really important feeling I was trying to get while being locked in, and expressing this through my art made me feel more free in myself.

I drew the Rocks that the mermaid is sat on to help give the feeling of grounded, and that there is nothing right now I can actually do. I’m very much a problem solver and if things don’t seem right then I like to try and work out in my head how to fix it. For anyone else who is like that will know it’s not always a fun thing, but were human and we like to try and work things out. I realised that at this moment in time I couldn’t actually do anything, everything just needed to work itself out around me.

The birds I drew were to portray the government swarming in trying to dictate and control the world right now “where your mask, put these gloves on, wash your hands”, we have no choice, something didn’t feel right. However, the pink bird was to show that us humans can have the power and if we all come together maybe we could have a world of freedom and light one day. Maybe it’s a hope of mine but what would the world look like with freedom, smiles and laughter everywhere.
