The Beauty of a Butterfly

“JUST WHEN THE CATERPILLAR THOUGHT HER LIFE WAS OVER, SHE BEGAN TO FLY”

Is a butterfly proof that you can go through a great deal of darkness yet become something beautiful?

Before I found my love for art again, I felt very stuck and trapped in my own head. It was almost like what I imagined a caterpillar to feel like. I have always been a person who will find her way out, but this time something felt so hard. However, I never gave up because I knew there was always that tiny glimpse of light waiting to be found.

Even when I felt like I had no one, there was always something that kept me going. Whether that was a text from a friend, a hug from a sibling or chat with a parent. That’s when I realised life is about what you make it, and I needed to start looking for the things that make me fly. This is where I grew mentally and physically. There was no more relying on others to lift you up because it was in me, I knew I needed to feel free again and nature was a great place to start.

I have always used nature in my work even when I was younger but this was the time where nature become every part of my doodles. I realised the only way I was going to feel fulfilled in my life was to do what I love and not only that, but to believe I can do it. People will put you down on your journey and that is why you need to be able to believe you can fly all on your own.

All our lives we get told what to do by others, from preschool right up until retirement and even then, after, but when you truly believe in yourself you make the rules, you own your life and you feel free. Who’s stopping you from flying?
